March 20, 2019- New Clutch

Last season I had problems with my rebuilt clutch and after pulling it out there was a crack in one of the finger stands. I am not sure exactly when the crack started but I suspect early on since I had a difficult time dialing in the clutch and things were not as consistent as in the past.

I decided to start fresh and after talking with various companies decided on an "Advanced Clutches" single 10" setup. I was very impressed during my discussions with Rob Youngblood the owner prior to my purchase, and that has continued even after the install. Very responsive and a wealth of information, and he has even proactively contacted me. I just installed the clutch and everything went very well.

Installed the clutch last weekend and everything went very well. After initially testing the clutch on jack stands I took it for a drive around the neighborhood today and all went well. I was a little concerned having such a light flywheel how it would effect the street manners, but did not seem any worst than the previous flywheel that was 12lbs. Even 12lb that was not too bad compared to a billet steel 28lb. one as long as kept the rpms above 1800 (fyi it idles at 1200).

I have an air gap of 0.045" (can easily get up to .060") and TOB to fingers of slightly .32"

The local track opens in a few weeks so my plan is to do some test-n-tune passes and get things dialed in.

The Pressure plate assembly weighs 13 lbs 1.4 oz

New disc weighs 5lb 3.2oz

Flywheel weighs 8lbs 2.2oz

April 9, 2019- New Coil and Bracket

My original Blaster II coil was acting up do I decided to replace it with MSD HVC II Coil which is made to work with the MSD Digital 6AL box. I was going to either mount it on the fender skirt or fab a bracket for the engine. I came across this very cool billet aluminum bracket that is perfect. The spacers keep it away from the engine so it gets decent air flow. Here is a link to a thread on it. https://forums.corral.net/forums/windsor-engine-parts/1169274-sbf-msd-hvc-billet-coil-mounts-5.html

October 31, 2019- New Best MPH and NHRA Sportsman License

Well the season is over and it was an interesting one. The only new PB was I did get to 137.0mph, so about .3mph more, otherwise times were not much different.

I did not do much work on the car except for messing with the clutch. I could never get the new clutch above to perform as it should no matter what I did, including guidance from the company that made the clutch. I could not get below 10.1 sec and launches were poor and inconsistent. I even suspected that something else was going on with the chassis since the launches were crap. For the last trip to the track for the season I installed an old softloc I had from a few years ago with a fresh disc and left the old heat shields on, so it was not even optimal. Started with the last settings for base and counterweight, with the only difference with the new disc was to correctly shim the ring height.

It was worth the experiment and the season ended on a good note. The car was back in the high 9's running between 136 and 137mph consistently. For the day I was able to squeak out 12 good runs.

The 60' still have a ways to improve.

I did not have an NHRA license and the track, told me to slow down after my 2nd pass of going too fast (need to be under 135 and slower than 9.99), but then proposed that I should just do license runs and get my NHRA Sportsman license and be all set for next season going over 135 and in the 9's. Did another 8 passes that were consistent, track officials and two other NHRA licensed drivers signed off and forms were sent in to the NHRA. I now have my license. I joked with my wife saying that I need to make the car faster since I can now go much faster:) Joking of course...well maybe not..
